NEWMAN, Stanislaus County — October 25, 2026. A city road project is expected to affect several streets in Newman through the fall. In a September 17, 2026 official notice, Newman identifies the Measure L Road Rehabilitation Project and schedules construction from September 14 to December 10, 2026, generally between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.. These dates are a planning window, not confirmation that all work is underway on any particular block today.

Which streets are listed?

The city describes a complete reconstruction of L Street between Merced Street and Inyo Avenue. The project also includes pulverizing and repaving sections of L Street, M Street, Tulare Street and Fresno Street between Merced Street and Kern Street, plus storm-drain improvements and other infrastructure work. Each street may face different phases and temporary restrictions; the notice does not say that all listed streets will close at the same time.

Will cars still get through?

The municipality warns that there will be phases requiring road closures to traffic, and says notices will be sent before closures. Residents and business owners should follow current signs and municipal or contractor instructions rather than rely on an old map or guess which route remains open. Anyone with delivery, mobility or school-travel needs should seek up-to-date access instructions directly from the project manager.

The city’s notice identifies United Pavement Maintenance project manager Jeff Long as a point of contact at (209) 410-0332. That number is for project information, not emergency dispatch.

Other seasonal city services

Newman’s homepage notes that its fall cleanup service was scheduled for October 12–17, which is already past. Residents should not treat the earlier fall-cleanup drop-off dates as an active service now. The city also advertises leaf and brush pickup beginning in November through March 31, with instructions to keep piles away from the gutter and exclude prohibited materials. Check city rules before putting out brush or large waste.

How to track city decisions

City Council meetings are ordinarily held on the second and fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. at 938 Fresno Street, according to the city’s public-meetings page. Its agenda archive lists the October 13 meeting and earlier sessions. Before attending a future meeting, confirm the specific agenda and whether a special session or cancellation has changed the usual schedule. Agenda items do not establish that a proposal passed.

Newman News will track access notices and milestones as the roadwork progresses, distinguishing announced schedules from verified completion.
